Taking It (Almost) All In

That's my my vintage aluminum tree with the color wheel (it's loud!) and holiday music in the background. It took me years to collect every one of those ornaments and the tree was an estate sale score a few years ago. I enjoy sitting, looking at the tree and listening to holiday music. I've learned to make sure I don't let the season pass by without taking it (visuals and spirit of the season) all in. Also in the past I often reached for sugar and junk instead of slowing down and resting when I needed it.

Are you making time to take in the season? How about time to relax and replenish?

  1. Beautiful tree! There's just something about an aluminum tree that I love. So retro yet modern at the same time! Glad you're taking the time to enjoy it.

With 3 school age kids much of my "taking it in" consists of buying and organizing teacher gifts, addressing holiday cards, and going to recitals. I'm also baking loaves of bread to give to friends and neighbors. I usually bake cookies but honestly I eat way too many if I do. I can't snack on the bread without cutting into the loaf so this works. It's also a bit healthier for my friends. No sugar except the natural sugar in the dried cranberries and orange peel.

It's been snowing here which is the best for getting me into the holiday spirit. Makes the whole street brighter which is so important when it gets dark at 4:30 in the afternoon.

    1. Thank you. That's a great tip, too, about gifting baked bread. I also love the snow and we're getting another wallop in a few hours. It really does add brightness to the shorter days.

  3. I am. Our children have come home for Christmas, and they helped decorate the tree, while we listened to Christmas music. We (the girls) have a tradition of going out to look at Christmas lights. The guys can't stand doing this, so they stay home. :D We watched The Holiday Inn the other day. White Christmas is our favorite though, but my daughter and I had already individually watched that before she got here, so we decided on The Holiday Inn. It's funny, even though the guys declare their hatred of musicals, they can't help but get sucked into watching the classic Christmas musicals, especially White Christmas. I think there's just enough humor in them to draw them in.

I have a tree up and decorated! My favorite thing is the train that goes around the bottom, lol!

Trains were big in the fifties!

  7. Beautiful! I have been taking it all in. I decided this year to make homemade Christmas presents so that was a fun experience. I also have made a bunch of Christmas crafts with my 2 year old daughter and some ornaments for our tree.
