Blog Lurkers

Only a very small percentage of my blog readers will leave a comment. I am trying to figure out why some people never want to engage, even anonymously. Sometimes it's disheartening. I welcome your thoughts.

  1. I am one of your lurkers...I think I'm kind of shy about putting my thoughts on paper for others to see...and possibly disagree with. I love your blog, and I do read it faithfully. I don't even care about using my name, and I tend to ramble, so maybe that's partly why...I don't want to bore anyone!

    1. Thank you for coming out of lurking,Valerie, even if this one time. I don't make money by doing my blog, so spiritual capital matters. Knowing you love it and read faithfully is payday for me. :)

You know we're both here: reading, lurking, commenting and smiling at your wit and charm in writing!!

  3. Hi Averyl,
I just love your blog and look forward to reading it. You are very much appreciated. I too love all things vintage. Just such a coziness in the details. Wishing you all things wonderful.

  4. I've been lurking lately, but not because I stopped reading. Yours is one of the few blogs I actually take time to read. You have such great Content! I know for me that I go thru phases with how much I engage online. But it must seem discouraging to feel like you're putting going yourself out there, taking time and energy, and it's like tumbleweeds rolling out there. I for one will do better cuz I love your blog and it's a two way street

  5. I am a lurker at times, but not because I want to be. I read every post you write and take time to peruse the photos. I think I may have commented a time or two. I love your blog! I am sure there are a lot of us out here! So take heart that you are appreciated! :-)

  6. Good morning, Averyl! You know I usually like to chime in! In fact, I would often like to write more, but worry that others will think me a "blog hog"! I love your updates and photos, and often share them with hubby, who visited Maine as a boy. I'm glad you're getting such a good response from your question! Lois

  7. Will do! Reading and responding to your blog brings back so many fun memories of my mid-century childhood...some long forgotten. :-) I also took this opportunity to update my profile & come out of the shadows a little more!

  8. Hello Averyl! Sometimes I'll leave a comment, but other times, I'm in a rush and only read, but I hope you continue writing, because you've inspired me so many times, about losing weight in a healthy manner and cooking with local and natural products, instead of chemical ones. It reminded me of the mediterranean diet, because we use a lot of fresh ingredients and herbs in our dishes. But sometimes, it's a lot easyer to eat out or heat something in the microwave...
My husband and I, went to the States (Miami, Califórnia, Massachusetts) on vacation a few years ago and if someday we happened to go to Maine, I hope we can get together and exchange some recipes and a cup of coffee! :D When I read your blog, it always reminds me of Murder, she wrote, because it was (supposedly) filmed in Maine and I loved to see the series! And if someday you'll come to Portugal, I'll show you some portuguese recipes, based on the mediterranean diet. :)

    1. Hi Paula! Thank you for letting me know that I've inspired you! Yes, coffee/recipe exchnages in Maine (avoid coming in February, ha!) or Portugal would be lovely!

  9. Interesting. I've never really had any issues commenting on blogs, but I also comment on Youtube, MSN, an MMA site, and AOL. Responses on those sites can be very nasty. I never engage nor leave a nasty comment, just give an opinion on the topic. Almost every topic on MSN and AOL becomes political. It's very sad really.

    1. It's true that news comment sections can be rife with abuse. I didn't know AOL was still around. ha! Thank you for being a regular commenter here!

  10. I think I've commented once, but I am a faithful reader. Not sure why I don't comment more, maybe it's my Minnesota reserve.

  11. I think I read or view pretty much every post, it's too bad they don't offer a like button since I always "like" (enjoy) your posts, but don't necessarily feel I have something to contribute in writing. I can start leaving thumbs up emojis, if blogger would support them :)

    1. You're blogging again?! I will have to get caught up (I just clicked your profile). I didn't know you were still reading. :) Blogger does have a thingy that is kind of like "like" but I never enabled it. Let me look into that! Thanks!!

    2. I enabled it but it's not showing. Bummer. It's probably buggy since it's from the 1990s.

  12. I'm not really blogging again, but I cleaned up and shuttered a bunch of domains and hosting that cost me money, but I wasn't doing anything with them. I decided on WordPress for the themes, re-deployed my personal site and added some blog posts that got attention on my other sites.

  13. I try to read and comment as much as I can but sometimes life gets in the way. :( I hope you already know how much you and your blog mean to me. If I'm ever up that way or you are ever down here we MUST get together! :)

  14. I, too, am a lurker! I have your book and have read your blog for years. I get great joy from your writing. I am a proud "square," a "no, I don't think that's a good idea" dorm-mom kind of gal. To be honest, you seem to be the kind of lady I would be friends with, if I lived in your neck of the woods (I'm in Tennessee). However, because I'm an introvert who rarely pokes her head out of her shell, having an obvious online presence, even in comments, is weird to me, lol! I've only ever seen kind comments in your community here, so maybe I should comment more. Either way, your writing absolutely resonates with many of us. Thank you for your dedication to it!
